GBE3050 Stem Cells and Developmental Biology 3 6 Major Bachelor 3-4 - No
In this course, we study stem cells and developmental biology to better understand the principles of tissue engineering. This course covers the molecular characteristics of stem cells and the developmental process from stem cells to whole organs.
GBE3053 Thesis Research for BME 1 2 Major Bachelor Korean Yes
This class is focused on writing dissertation and how to proceed Biomedical Engineering research.
GBE3056 Biophotonics 3 6 Major Bachelor - No
This is an introductory course on the principles of Biophotoics. Thanks to many advances in science and engineering, a variety of biomedical applications are available using state-of-the-art biomedical imaging technologies. This course provides a general introduction to biomedical imaging, including the basic principles of various biomedical imaging technologies and their possible applications. This is a prerequisite for other advanced imaging-related courses.
GBE3057 Brain Sciences and Psychology 3 6 Major Bachelor - No
This course will explore current issues and findings in the field of Brain Sciences and Psychology. Information in the brain has been traditionally viewed as hard-coded. However, research has shown that activity in many of the brain areas is not fixed but changes with experience, and does not hold raw sensory data but is often modulated by top-down influences, such as attention and interpretation. In this course, we will consider how the organization of the human brain changes with experience. We will also explore the variety of high-level information that can be found in the brain. Topics include attention, memory, imagery, consciousness, cross-modal interactions, and plasticity in the brain. Students will read and discuss the current research findings in the field and develop research ideas of their own.
GBE3058 Sensory-Motor Transformation 3 6 Major Bachelor 3-4 - No
Sensory-motor transformation course introduces the neural mechanisms of the brain for controlling/generating motor behaviors of human and animal. We have to integrate sensory information from external environments with the information about location/state of the specific actuators (hand, arm, and eye, etc.) to control motor behaviors. Therefore, we have to understand interactions and transformations of these representations and synergistic control of muscles to know how motor movements are generated. This course will introduce research fields for sensorimotor control overall, including sensory representation, motor coordination, motor learning, signal processing, and motor control theory.
GBE3059 BME Biomechanics 3 6 Major Bachelor 3-4 - No
In this course, we learn how to use mechanics to understand and model biological phenomena ranging from a molecular level to tissue or organ level. This course is for senior undergraduate student with basic knowledge on biomaterials.
GBE3060 Introduction to Biomimetics 3 6 Major Bachelor 3-4 - No
In this course, we learn how to use nature’s design principles to make materials with superior biological, electrical, and mechanical properties. It will cover biomimetics over a wide range of length scales, ranging from molecular-level biomimetics to organ-level biomimetics.
GBE3062 Thesis Research for BME Ⅱ 1 2 Major Bachelor Korean Yes
This class is focused on writing dissertation and how to proceed Biomedical Engineering research.
GBE3063 Introduction to Affective Neuroscience 3 6 Major Bachelor - No
Joyful, happy, sad, angry, disgusting, painful, bored... we experience these emotions all the time, and these experience keep changing every moment. How can we "define" emotions? How can we "study" emotions? What are the "bodily factors" that influence emotions? How we "measure" bodily response of emotions? What are the "brain representations" of emotions? Are emotions same with affect or feelings? How can we model the "dynamics" of emotions? What are the underlying problems in emotional disorders, like anxiety and depression? etc. There are so many interesting questions about emotions. In this class, you will learn some key topics of affective neuroscience.
GBE3064 Biostatistics and Big data 3 6 Major Bachelor English Yes
Data are everywhere. It is a big data era. Data science already became a key element in many research and industrial areas. The primary aim of this course is to learn basic concepts and skills for data analysis, including concepts of random variables, sampling distributions, hypothesis testing, linear modeling, data visualization, etc., preparing students for their lives after the graduation in this data-are-everywhere age.
GBE3065 Introduction to matlab programing and machine learning 3 6 Major Bachelor English,Korean Yes
This course aims to teach the programming skills for designing/conducting experiments, collecting biological data (behavioral and EEG data), and analyzing the data using a script based programming language (MATLAB). Class participants will compose several teams and each team will design an experiment that they can collect biological data from. Students are expected to implement and conduct the experiment using MATLAB. The obtained data will be analyzed through open-source machine learning algorithms and MATLAB. Evaluation will be based on the outcome of the team-based projects and mid/final terms presentations of each project.
GBE3066 Advanced Biomaterial Chemistry 3 6 Major Bachelor 3-4 English Yes
The aim of this class is to learn fundamental biochemistry regarding physicochemical properties of biomaterials. In addition, we will understand the biological mechanism and biosignaling pathway on a basis of proteins. The biological analytical tools (e.g., protein or DNA works) can be also introduced. rned.
GBE3071 biodatamining 3 6 Major Bachelor English Yes
This class is designed to advance the understanding of the senior undergraduate students (4th year) for big data science in biomedical engineering. The class will introduce overall steps for identifying biologically meaningful patterns from large-scale biomedical engineering data as well as relevant methodological issues in the research designs and approaches. The contents will be presented along the series of contrasting axes between supervised and unsupervised learning, between categorical and dimensional analytics, and between univariate and multivariate algorithms, and every lecture will be accompanied by actual code implementation to better understanding the targeted data mining algorithms.
GBE3072 Biostatistics and Big dataⅡ 3 6 Major Bachelor 2-4 - No
Data are everywhere. This class, “Biostats and Big data2”, is the advanced version of the “Biostats and Big data” course.
